Submit downloaded applications and personal history statements via email to Human Resources or by fax to 540-380-3143.

Application & Personal History Statement
The job application and personal history statement documents can be completed electronically, but you will not be able to submit them directly from this website. You will need to save them to your computer, then attach to an email and send them to Human Resources.

Hiring Process Phases
Applicants must complete the following phases in the hiring process:
- Written Exam and Physical Agility Test
- Background Interview and Investigation
- Pre-employment physical and psychological examination
- Final approval by the Human Resources Manager and the Superintendent
Job Application Process
You must Submit an Application (PDF) prior to taking the written test. The HR Manager will email you to schedule a testing date once your completed application is received. You must also submit the Personal History Statement (PDF) prior to, or on the day, that you come to test. Your scheduled time will be discussed when you are contacted.
You must successfully complete the written examination in order to be eligible to take the physical agility test. The written test will take approximately ninety minutes to complete and consists of 3 sections (reading, vocabulary and math). Please come directly to the jail facility at 5885 West River Road, Salem, VA, with a picture ID.
If you pass the written test, the agility test will be given immediately following the written test. Please wear or bring athletic clothing. Western VA Regional Jail is an Equal Opportunity Employer
